She then attended General Beadle Teacher's College in Madison, South Dakota and received her teacher's certificate. She taught at the Mentele School in Pearl Township for one year.
Janet married Frank Schooler on December 5, 1959. They lived in Sioux Falls for two years and then moved to the Schooler Ranch south of Reliance, South Dakota. Having survived breast cancer, Janet supported the daffodil sale and delivery each spring for many years along with her husband Donald, to benefit cancer research. She was also president of the ladies church group at the Methodist Church in Kimball for several years. Janet was also an avid reader and loved to read books and magazines.
Family was very important to Janet, especially her 6 grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She was seldom seen at a family gathering without her Polaroid camera.
