OBITUARY:
Farmington - Reginald E. Whitney, 50, died Tuesday, October 13, 1959, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital. He had been in ill health for the last several months. He was born in Farmington, March 22, 1909, the son of Carroll S. and Justina Ripley Whitney.
He was educated in local schools and for many years was engaged as a painter and interior decorator. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the 264th Infantry 66th Division as a combat infantryman in the European Theatre.
Active in musical circles, he was a member of the Farmington Old Crow Indian Band, community and Baptist church orchestras. He was also active as a leader in Boy Scout activities. He was a member of the Roderick-Crosby Post American Legion. He attended the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are his widow, Phyllis Winship Whitney; a daughter, Pauline Whitney; a son, Charles Harold Whitney; and his mother in Augusta.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the American Legion Home. The Rev. Gordon E. Bigelow, pastor of the Baptist Church, will officiate. An American Legion committal service will be held at Fairview Cemetery.
