Peder was a Sammi from Gåsfjord in Sortland, and had been working for Jonas Falch for several years. The origin of Berit is not known, but she may have come from Kvæfjord [where a Berit Olsdtr Strand lived]. It is uncertain if she is the same person as listed from there. Presumably, she had given birth in Andenes, together with Peder, their first child before she and Peder were married. Peder and Berit survived the crisis years, and Peter continued to work for Falch in 1817. Then the family moved to Fiskenes and were there for nine years. In 1826 they came back and Peder was a hired man for Anders Olsen. Around 1830, Peder began to have difficulties with his health, and he died in 1832. Berit then went to Ånes, where two of her children had married. The youngest daughter, Anna Bergitte Pedersdtr, continued to stay at Andenes. There she gave birth to a daughter with Ole Olsen from Bjornskinn; the polar explorer, Helmer Hansen was her youngest child. Peder was not the only Sammi at Lille Flamberget. The other Sammi was Anders Jenssen, from Finnmark.
