"Golden Wedding Date of Salem Couple Marked with Open House
SALEM-- About 200 relatives and friends gathered at the Mission Covenant Church north of Salem Feb. 7, to help Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weld celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. Open house was held from 2 to 5 p.m.
A short program was given as follows: welcome, Marlyce Osterberg; poem, Jean Osterberg; accordion solo, Virgil Vanhurde; piano solo, Miss Verda Pamperin; vocal selection by a trio composed of Mrs. Don Peterson, Mrs. Eldon Pearson, and Miss Verjean Osterberg; talk and scripture reading, the Rev. Everett Hansen.
Refreshments were served by members of the Ladies Aid.
Mrs. Sterne Walker and Mrs. Cecil Lundberg were in charge of the guest book.
Relatives from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Louis Dubbe, Mr. and Mrs. George Lowell, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jordan, Mr. and Mrs. Sterne Walker and children, Mrs. Erica Gerner and Clarence Dahse, all of Sioux Falls; Mr. and Mrs. John Lowell, Mr, and Mrs. John Johanson and Alfred Rix, of Hartford; Mr. and Mrs. Monrad Swensen, of Wentworth; Mrs. Alma Moschell and son of Fedora.

Obituary: The Salem Special, Thursday, November 17, 1966:
“Fred Weld, 84, Dies Sunday in SF Hospital, Funeral Services Wed.”
“Fred Weld passed away early Sunday morning, November 13, in a Sioux Falls hospital, after an illness of several months, having atttained the age of 84 years, 11 months and 29 days. He was born at Byron Ill, on November 14, 1881, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Weld.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 16, at 2 p.m. in the Salem Evangelical Covenant Church north of Salem, with the Rev. Sverre Skurdal officiating. Burial was in the Erick Olson cemetery with Kinzley funeral home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Sheldon Osterberg was organist, and Dwight Osterberg, Mrs. Darrell Kirby were vocalists.
Pallbearers were George Darrow, William Swenson, Alan Moschell, Roy Stangohr, Robert Schwader and Thomas Seuberling.
Mr. Weld was a member of the Salem Evangelical Covenant Church. He was married to Miss Minnie Stangohr on Feb. 8, 19910. He is survived by his widow and five daughters: Mrs. Arnold Osterberg (Ruth) of Salem; Mrs. Clyde Lyon (Wilma) of Atlanta, Ga.; Mrs. Walter Passe (Caroline of Wabasha, Minn.; Mrs. Everett Van Heerde (Ruby) of Sioux Falls, and Lois Weld of Salem; and two sons, Robert of Keokuk, Ia., and Wayne of Renton, Wash; thirteen grandchildren, one great grandson and one sister, Mrs. Nellie Smith of rockford, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and seven sisters.”
