Obituary: Alma Pecks
“Alma Moschell Pecks was born on a farm October 22, 1902 near Canova, SD to Wilhelm and Caroline (Voelsch) Stangohr. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a faithful member all of her life. Alma died August 2, 1988 at the Howard Good Samaritan Home in Howard, SD where she was a resident for seven years. She reached the age of 85 years. She was one of a pair of twins; twin brother Albert passed away in 1973.
Alma obtained her elementary education in a one room country school located about a mile and a half from their home. She generally walked to school, but on occasions she would ride a horse and then turn it loose and it would return home.
Alma was a volunteer Gray Lady at the Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home in Madison, SD, a Sunday school teacher, was active in Ladies Aid at Bethany Lutheran Church, Howard, SD, nurses aide in Canova, and enjoyed helping people. She was a farmer’s wife who loved gardening and caring for animals.
She married William F. Moschell on August 25, 1923 and settled on a farm near Roswell. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother bringing up eight children during the depression years. To this marriage the following children were born: Ardath Walker, Eureka, CA; Elda Briggs, Kokomo, IN; Deloris Nelson, Lexington, NE; Myrna Moore, Artesian, SD; William R., Fedora; and Richard, Kenosha, WI. Her sons Alan and Harold preceded her in death. Mr. Moschell died December 4, 1956.
On November 1, 1962 Alma married Ernest Pecks and made her home in Madison, SD. Ernest died on November 11, 1981.
Also surviving is one step-son, Duane Pecks, Ivanhoe, MN; 28 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two sisters: Vera Patro, Howard; and Ida Pamperin, Wasleco, TX; and a brother, Ernest Stangohr, Howard. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two sons, four sisters, five brothers, two grandsons, and one step-grandson.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 5th at Bethany Lutheran Church with the Rev. Clarence Stangohr officiating.
Casketbearers included grandsons Gary Moschell, Jeff Moschell, Mike Nelson, Rodney Moschell, Billy Moschell, Tracy Briggs, and Jerry Moore. Honorary bearers were also grandsons Daniel Moschell, Donovan Moschell, Carl Moschell, Larry Walker, Roger Moore, Mark Moschell, John Briggs, and Denis Moschell.
Music was provided by granddaughters Brenda and Julie Moschell, Chloe and Cheryl Moore, and Valerie Krempges. Karen Moschell was the organist.”
