"Mrs. George McCartney and daughter Flora, departed for California, where they will spend the winter. Miss McCartney will become a student at the Sanford university, when that institution opens this fall."
After George McCartney died, Minnie returned from Parker first to the farm where Cliff lived which is where John R. lived at that time and then later moved 1/2 mile south across the road.

“Pioneer Minnehaha Resident is Stricken:
A long-time resident of Minnehaha county, Mrs. Minnie L. McCartney, 86, died at a local hospital Thursday afternoon after a three-week illness. She had lived on the same farm, 12 miles southwest of Sioux Falls, for the past 66 years.
Born in Ostrander, Wis., February 27, 1865, Mrs. McCartney came to Minnehaha county in 1884. She was married to George A. McCartney in Sioux Falls, December 10, 1888. He died shortly after the marriage.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Flora G. Luker, Lennox, and a brother, John R. Lowell, Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be held at the Miller Funeral home at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. T. N. Teigen officiating. Mrs. C. B. Van Ausdall will be organist, Norman Mathers, soloist. Burial will be in a family lot in Parker.”
