“Notice is hereby given, that the subscriber has been duly appointed Administrator of all and singular the goods and Estate which were of Samuel Lowell, late of Readfield, in the county of Kennebec, deceased, intestate, and has undertaken that trust by giving bond as the law directs:--All persons therefore, having demands against the Estate of Said deceased are desired to exhibit the same for settlement; and all indebted to said Estate are requested to make immediate payment to REUBEN LOWELL, Adm’r, Chesterville, Jan. 1, 1839”
[NOTE: In above notice, Samuel Lowell’s residence at the time of his death is stated as “Readfield.” In notice below, Samuel Lowell’s residence at the time of his death is stated as “Chesterville.” It is not clear if the reference to Readfield in the above notice is correct or a mistake. No other documents have been found indicating that Samuel Lowell lived in Readfield.]
“Probate Notice: Age (Augusta, ME) Vol. VIII, Issue 3, Page 4, Tuesday, February 5, 1839:
“Notice is hereby given that the suscriber has been duly appointed Administrator of all and singular the goods and estate which were of Samuel Lowell, late of Chesterville, in the County of Franklin, deceased, intestate, and has undertaken that trust by giving bond as the law directs. All persons, therehaving demands against the estate of said deceased, are desired to exhibit the same for settlement; and all indebted to said estate are requested to make immediate payment to Reuben Lowell, Adm’r., Chesterille, Jan. 1, 1839.”
As part of the probate process, Reuben Lowell reports to the court that real estate in the amount of S156.00, plus $15.00 for incidental expenses, is to be sold to cover outstanding debts since there were insufficient personal funds to cover such debts.
Court records reflect that sale of real estate is petitioned on 27 Sep 1842 to cover outstanding demands against the estate, totalling $156 and $15 incidental expenses.
