      “Mrs. H. Kieni, Oldest Citizen, Passed Away:

      “Mrs. Henry (Hulda) Kieni, 93, pioneer Humboldt resident and its oldest citizen, passed away Sunday evening at a Sioux Falls hospital.

      Funeral services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Congregational Church in Humboldt with Rev. Harold Becker officiating. Burial was in the Humboldt Cemetery.

      “Pallbearers were Claude Patzlaff, Al Etteldorf, Neal Van Viest, Harold Munce, Leon Lee and Carl Eisenberg.

      “Hulda Miller was born in Saxony, Germany, March 24, 1874, and came to America with her parents at the age of 10, settling in South Dakota in the Wall Lake vicinity. She was married to Henry W. Kieni on November 22, 1892, and they farmed southwest of Humboldt. They moved to Humboldt in 1899 where her husband was in the carpenter and contracting business until his death in 1936.

      “In October, 1963 (?) requiring intensive care, she became a patient at Mom & Dad’s convalescent home in Sioux Falls.

      “Mrs. Kieni was a member of the Congregational Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.”

      “She is survived by two daughters, Ella Kieni, Humboldt, and Mrs. Emma Carter, Alhambra, Calif., and one son, Arthur, Humboldt, and one sister, Mrs. Earl Collins, Phoenix, Arizona.”

    Adolph Miller died in 1901. After his death, his wife, Augusta, and his children Paul, Hulda, Rudolph, Viola, and Max, jointly owned Adolph Miller's homestead farm. In 1911, Max bought out the interests of his mother and siblings and became sole owner of the Miller homestead farm.
