“Viola Collins
Services for Viola Elsie Collins, 91, who died Jan. 21, 1979, in the Desert Haven Nursing Home, will be in South Dakota.
Mrs. Collins, of 2645 E. Thomas, was born in Parker, S.D., and moved to Phoenix in 1929.
Mrs. Collins is survived by a son, Cleo Earl; and two grandchildren.”

Assumed to have been taken sometime between 1909 and 1918. Identity of individuals not confirmed, but it is possible that they are Viola Miller Collins (woman in center of photograph), Elsie Miller Strobel (child next to Viola), and Augusta Miller, woman at far right of picture. Assumed date based on the fact that Elsie went to live with her grandmother in Parker after the death of her mother in August 1909. The 1910 U.S. Federal Census lists Augusta, Viola, and Elsie living at their home in Parker. Home was listed as being on 3rd Street.

Adolph Miller died in 1901. After his death, his wife, Augusta, and his children Paul, Hulda, Rudolph, Viola, and Max, jointly owned Adolph Miller's homestead farm. In 1911, Max bought out the interests of his mother and siblings and became sole owner of the Miller homestead farm.
