“Adeline Belcher McCormick is Bride of George Willard Edmonds at Home Wedding in Santa Barbara
At a quiet but charming wedding Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock, Miss Adeline Belcher McCormick of Marysville and George Willard Edmonds of Santa Barbara were married at the El Mirasol cottage of the bride’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Harold William Beard of Santa Barbara, with whom Miss McCormick has made her home for the past two years. Rev. John de Forest Pettus, rector of All Saints by the Sea, Episcopal Church in Montecito, read the impressive service in the presence of the families and a few close friends.
The bride was given in marriage by her grandfather Judge Richard Belcher. Instead of the traditional white wedding gown she wore a frock of poudre blue crepe made on princess lines, with a long full skirt and slight train. The bodice was shired and the sleeves were short and puffed. With this she wore an off-the-face hat of Dubonnet straw, piped in velvet of a deeper shade, with long streamers. She carried a shower bouquet of wine-colored Transvaal daisies.
The bride also carried a small lace handerkerchief that had been carried by a paternal great-grandmother more than 100 years ago. The bridegroom also had a handerchief that the bridegroom of that early wedding day carried.
The bride dispensed with attendants and Mr. Edmonds had as best man his brother, Warner Edmonds Jr. Mrs. Anita Cochrane Priest played the wedding music.
The ceremony took place before a fern-banked fireplace, on either side of which were tall silver vases of Calla lilies, white larkspur and gladioli. On the mantel, silver candelabra held lighted white tapers, and a large silver bowl in the center was filled with tall spikes of white larkspur and white gladioli.
Mrs. Frank Akin, who went south for her daughter’s wedding, wore a frock of cornflower blue lace, a corsage of gardenias and a large picture hat of blue horsehair. Mrs. Belcher, grandmother of the bride, wore a black and white print with black satin cape and black hat.
Mrs. Beard was attired in gray chiffon with a hat of cherry red straw. Mrs. Warner Edmonds, the bridegroom’s mother, wore a gown of wine red and white flowered chiffon, with a corsage of orchids. Her hat was of natural straw. Mrs. Bishop Edmonds of San Diego, grandmother of the bridegroom, wore gray lace with a black hat, as did Mrs. William C. L. Beard of Los Angeles.
The bride’s table, covered with a white lace cloth, had the wedding cake as its centerpiece and two formal trees of gardenias and baby larkspur on either side.
The young couple left for a honeymoon trip to Carmel and upon their return will reside at 507 East Valerio street, Santa Barbara.
The bride is the daughter of the late Ralph Wheeler McCormick and her paternal grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCormick of Alameda. She attended Stanford University, where she was affiliated with the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. In Santa Barbara she is a member of the Junior League and with her marriage, relinquishes membership in the Spinsters.
Mr. Edmonds’ maternal grandparents were the late Senator and Mrs. Martin Luther Ward and he is also the grandson of the late Bishop J. Edmonds. Members of his family were pioneer residents of San Diego, where his father is now vice-president and manager of the Bank of America. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Warner Edmonds of Hope Ranch, Santa Barbara and, since graduation from Stanford university has been on the editorial staff of the Santa Barbara News-Press.”
