- From Julius Sackman: “Ida Z. Liebowitz Jaffe was the daughter of George Liebowitz, a peddler, and his wife Susan R. Liebowitz. I have a distint recollection of George Liebowitz, because he was in New York for a few years when I was a little boy, about five years old. One of the memories was when he sailed back to Russia just a few months before the outbreak of the world war. I can still see the picture of the huge liner steaming out of the peer [sic], the ship’s band playing, my mother crying, and the poor old fellow leaning upon the railing, unable to speak and sadly waving good-bye to us. It was a last good-bye too, for it was no more than a year later that we received word that he died in Russia. He was a great old man, and I loved him.”«s93»
