    “”Geologist Killed
    REDWOOD CITY, Sept. 17.-
A retired geologist was killed last night when he was hurled from a tractor and crushed beneath the wheels of a trailer it was pulling.
Two boys were riding on the trailer when it went out of control down a steep hill. They were thrown clear and were not injured.
Killed was Ernest H. Quayle, 65, retired geologist for the Saudi-Arabian Oil company. A resident of Salt Lake City, Quayle had been in California for the past two months to help William Palmer with a grading and water conservtion project at Palmer’s ranch at 407 Georgia Lane, Portola Valley.
Deputy Sheriff George Erickson reported that the accident happened at 6 p.m. while Quayle was pulling the trailer, filled with top soil, down a steep dirt road from the Robert Evans residence at 415 Georgia Lane.
Two boys, Eddie Gann, 11, 290 Nathhorst place, and Dale Palmer, son of Quayle’s employer, were riding on the load of top soil.
    OUT OF GEAR
The boys told Erickson that the tractor seemed to jump out of gear and the brakes would not hold. The tractor and trailer plummeted down the hill, crashed through a barbed wire fence and plunged down an embankment, jackknifing at the bottom.
The boys were thrown clear but Quayle fell between the trailer and tractor and his head was crushed by a wheel of the trailer...[NOTE: Remainder of article focused on the life of Quayle and his survivors.]

From the Craig Daily Press online obituaries:
    Laurel Marie Causer
Laurel Marie Causer, also known as Betty Boop with the attitude, played her final bingo game Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011.
    She was 39.
Laurel arrived in this world with a Starbucks in hand wearing a
    tie-dyed T-shirt.
Although she had a younger brother, she took pride in being the “baby” of the family. Laurel spent most of her life in Craig, where she met her husband, Darrell.
They moved to Denver, where they “tied the knot,” sporting matching mullets.
Two years later, their daughter Keanna arrived, prompting them to leave Denver and raise their kids in the small town of Craig.
Two years later, their son Lane arrived, completing the family of four.
Laurel took pride in her children, and her artistic ability soared when her kids had a play, school project or especially her favorite holiday, Halloween.
Laurel chose a career that suited her well. She was a certified nursing assistant for many years in Craig and Steamboat Springs. Not satisfied, she furthered herself by going to college to become a nurse. She was employed at Moffat Family Clinic until her death.
Laurel spent her life giving all she had; she could make anyone laugh. She was, in a few words, a great mom, wild, artistic, funny, crazy, a soft heart, her daughter’s best friend, peacemaker and ninja rock star.
With a lot of tears and laughter, she left behind her husband, Darrell Causer; children Keanna and Lane Causer; parents Jan and Darrell Hunt; sisters Amy (Tom) Doolin and Deborah (James) Kolb; brother Eddie Ray Gann, Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paving the path before her was father Eddie Ray Gann, Sr., grandparents Ray and Mildred Gann, and William Lincoln, Sr.
So, the next time you decide to gamble on a scratch ticket, play and think of Laurel. She was a winner.
A graveside service was Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, with Tom Cramer officiating. Memorial donations may be made to suicide prevention in care of Grant Mortuary.

From the Craig Press, Oct. 5, 2011:
"Family of Laurel Causer: 'Grateful' for support:
    To the editor:
As a family, words cannot express how grateful we are to those who reached out to us in our time of loss.
First, to God for giving us the strength to get through each day.
To Owen Grant and Judy Bingham, thank you for going the extra mile. You are clearly using the talent God gave you.
To Tom and Jessie Cramer, thank you for listening to God when asked to do something so difficult. The funeral was perfect and you are forever etched in our hearts.
To the Craig Police Department for placing the speed monitor on our street knowing it would be busy.
To Ray and Toni Cartwright, thank you for stepping up and just doing. We could not have done it without you both.
To Cary and Ruby Roberts for the use of their camper trailer.
To Bear Valley Inn, thank you for a wonderful rate and all your compassion.
To Jackson’s for the photos. They turned out perfect. Thank you.
To Belinda Wyman for doing great nails and being a true friend. Thank you for having our back.
To Lois Wymore for doing what needed done without asking. You are the bomb.
To Moffat Family Clinic for loving Laurel and being so understanding.
To everyone who came by, brought food, sent a card or said a prayer.
Our void can never be described or understood completely. Just knowing so many people loved her like we do makes a difference.
Thank you for loving our Laurel. She was your Laurel, too.

From Facebook post of May 30, 2019:
"I never, ever thought in my mind that my mother was selfish. That she did it without thinking of us. I knew with every ounce of me, she wanted 'what was best for us.' That's not actually what happens though. Unfortunately she transferred all her pain and suffering to all of us who knew and loved her. Some days it doesn't hurt as bad, and some days it feels like I died with her. That pain never goes away. It's always there. But I will always love my momma."
