From The Humboldt Journal, Thursday, November 27, 1969:
“Final Rites Held Last Friday for Ella Kieni”
Miss Ella Kieni, 74, long time resident of this community, died Tuesday, November 18, 1969, at a Sioux Falls hospital, where she had been confined during a lingering illness.
Funeral services were held November 21 at the Congregational Church in Humboldt, Mr. Carl Carlisle officiating. Burial was in the Humboldt Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Leon Lee, Claude Patzlaff, Elmer Heitmann, Harold Munce, Neal Van Vleet and Berten Oaks.
Ella Kieni was born on a farm southwest of Humboldt April 27, 1895, the family moving to Humboldt in 1899.
During and after graduation from High School she was employed as a saleslady in the Humboldt Supply Company, and later in various cities, including St. Paul, Kansas City, Miami, Sioux City, and was manager of a dress shop in Sioux Falls, returning to Humboldt in 1934.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Congregational Church.
Survivors are her brother Arthur Kieni, Humboldt and her sister Mrs. Emma Carter of Alhambra, California.”
