“Obituary:
“Mrs. Auguste Amalia Miller was born Feb. 14, 1845 [NOTE: 1900 Census lists birthdate as Feb 1856], 1910 Census lists age as 64], in Waltersdorf, kingdom Saxon, Germany, and died on the 19th of Jan., 1918, at her home in Parker, S.D. aged 72 years, 11 months, and 5 days.
“In 1868 she was married to Adolf Miller, to which union 6 children were born, 4 sons and 2 daughters. One of the boys died at the age of 18 months, also her husband died about 17 years ago. Five of the children are living and are well known in Parker. They are as follows: Paul, who is at work in Charles City; Max, who is living on a farm about 20 miles from Parker; Rudolf, who is a carpenter and resides in Parker; Hulda, who is the wife of Mr. H. W. Kieni, residing at Humboldt, S.D., and Viola, the wife of Earl Collins, on a farm near Humboldt.
“In 1885, Mrs. Miller came with her children to this vicinity. As her husband came three years earlier to establish a home for his family, it was left to Mrs. Miller to care for the children in the meantime.
“For a number of years, the family lived on a farm in Wellington township, but for the last fifteen years the deceased lived in Parker. She joined the M. E. Church in the old country, and was a faithful member thereof until her death. Although her health was poor for a few years, and she could not attend all the services, she took great interest in the welfare of the church.
“The cause of her death was pneumonia. Besides her children she leaves to mourn her departure fourteen grandchildren and other relatives.
“The funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at the German M. E. Church. Rev. A. F. Damerow preached in the German language and Rev. F. J. Hoffman, now pastor at Redfield, S.D., preached the English sermon.”, ,
