""Clarence G. Newson
Kittery-Clarence G. Newson, 79, of 14 Newmarch St., a retired Portsmouth Naval Shipyard employe, died yesterday at a Portsmouth convalescent home.
A native and lifelong resident here, he was born May 29, 1875, the son of the late George W. and Flora (Fernald) Newson. As a young man, Mr. Newson was a painter and paperhanger. He later became employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a boat-builder, retiring in 1945.
Mr. Newson was a former member of the Portsmouth Painters' Union and the Shipyard Retirement Assn.
His wife, Mrs. Alice L Gatchell Newson, died Jan. 20.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Newson, and a daughter, Mrs. Doris Chapman, both of Kittery; three grandchildren, and a sister, Miss Mary L. Newson of Portsmouth."
