      "Wiilliam Wood Thames"
      GALVESTON--Willis Wood Thames, 73, died on November 30, 1994. He was born in Kirbyville, Texas on Easter morning, April 3, 1921 to Travis William and Edna Moorhead Thames.
      Mr. Thames grew up in Beaumont and lived there until moving to Galveston in 1973.
      In Beaumont he was a member of Sabine Area Home Builders, and a former president of the Beaumont Board of Realtors. He participated in many major developments there including Minglewood, New Caldwood, Hawthorne Place, Thornwood and Westgate. His last project began when in 1972 he purchased the Munipipal Golf Course in Galveston. This with several other investors became Central City Development Company of Galveston, Inc. The conversion of this property has led to the large complex of businesses presently located at Central City Boulevard.
      He served for many years as chairman of the Galveston-Niigata Sister City Program, and he and his wife were recently honored on their last visit to Niigata with Keys to the City. He was a member of Free Masons, Knights Templar of Beaumont, El Mina Temple of Galveston, Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Texas, Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Texas.
      Recently he and his wife celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. They were honored by a gathering in their home by immediate family members.
      Survivors include his wife, Margaret Combest Thames, son and daughter-in-law, Wood and Patricia Thames of Dallas; daughters and sons-in-law, Margo and Bill Seele of Houston, Gena Beth and Don Vollmer of Austin; seven grandchildren, Beth and Courtney Thames of Dallas, Bryand and Kyle Seele of Houston, Travis, Lauren and Justin Vollmer of Austin; one brother Carroll Earl Thames of Poway, CA.
      Mr. Thames will lie in state at his residence, 4510 Sherman, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Friday, December 2, 1994. Services will be held at Broussard's Mortuary in Beaumont, Tx. on Saturday, December 3, 1994 at 1:00 PM, with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Officiating will be Dr. John Powers. Local arrangements are being handled by Broadeway Funeral Home, Galveston, Texas. In lieu of floral offerings a donation may be made to a charity of one's choice.
      Pallbearers are Sam Tramonte, Joe Murry Thames, John Knust, Sheldon Greenberg, Cesare J. Galli, Jr., and Stanford Alexander.
      Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Luis Leon, Richard Williamson, James H. Greer, Dr. Ted Huang, and Melvin Dow.
