      "Lillian M. Voelsch, age 97, of Estelline, SD, formerly of Watertown, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012 at a Estelline care center. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2012 at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown, SD with the Reverend John Carter of St. Martin's Lutheran Church officiating. There will be no visitation.

      Arrangements are being handled by the Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

      Memorials may be designated to Crippled Children's Hospital in Sioux Falls.
      Lillian Mary Voelsch was born on December 23, 1914 to William and Carrie (Jensen) Elfring on a farm near Grover, South Dakota. She attended grade school at Foley and later went to Watertown where she worked for room and board so she could attend high school in Watertown. At the age of 16 she went to work for Harry and Wilbert Voelsch cultivating corn.

      On June 26, 1932 she married Harry W.H. Voelsch in the parsonage at Grover Lutheran Church and the couple lived on a farm south of Watertown. They had 71 years of marriage together. Lillian helped Harry on the farm for many years raising cattle, sheep, hogs, and chickens. Lillian and Harry worked together in the fields and raising their calves and lambs. Harry passed away on June 9, 2004.

      Lillian was a life long member of St. Martin's and was very active in Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Foley Garden Club for many years. She made wonderful pies and her famous peanut brittle.

      Lillian enjoyed playing pinochle, visiting neighbors, gardening and being outdoors, traveling, and entertaining family at reunions and at Christmas.

      She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry, two sisters, Carnellia and Elenora, and two brothers, Carl and William.

      She is survived by two brothers, Herbert Elfring of Jackson, Mich. and Robert (Shirley) Elfring of Glasgow, MT; two sisters, Beverly Olsen of Glasgow, MT and Connie Potepan of Catonsville, MD; her special nephew, Gene and his wife, Bonnie; and many nieces and nephews.
