    Notes
    • From the Oakland Tribune, Sunday, January 4, 1925:
“Miss Garthwaite To Wed at Sunset in St. Paul’s Today, by Suzette”
“At the hour of sunset this afternoon, Miss Margaret Lowell Garthwaite, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hatfield Garthwaite of Fairmount avenue will plight her troth to Otis Reed Marston of Berkeley in St. Paul’s Episcopal church on the lake, several hundred guests from about the bay to witness the reading of the ritual by Rev. Alexander Allen, rector of that church.
The marriage of the couple will unite two of the older families in California. There is a lovely bit of sentiment in connection with the wedding in that many of the appointments of the ceremony have been planned by close friends of the bride-elect and the music, which will be rendered by a group of eminent artists, will be the outstanding feature of the wedding, since the bride’s mother, Mrs. Augusta Lowell Garthwaite, is to play the organ throughout the ceremony and during the half hour of music at 4 o’clock, prior to the reading of the ritual.
The reception, which will be attended by three hundred guests, is to be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Hoyt in Fairmont avenue, parents of the maid of honor, Miss Beth Hoyt. The wedding supper, which is for the bridal party only, will be at the E. H. Garthwaite home nearby.
Mrs. Charles Lee Tilden Jr., a cousin of the bride, will be matron of honor, Miss Beth Hoyt, maid of honor, and the bridesmaids, Mrs. William St. Cyr Cavanher and Miss Merle Marston.
Edwin Lowell Garthwaite, brother of the bride, will be best man and the ushers, Newton Hereford Bell, Willis Cyrus Day, John Gilbert Garthwaite, Charles Lee Tilden, Jr., and Wymond B. Garthwaite.
The little flower maids are to be Cathie Garthwaite, miece of the bride, and Marjorie Leigh, a niece of the bridegroom.
As the rays of the setting sun flood through the windows of the church the “Bridal March”, a composition by H. Bickford Pasmore, a lifelong friend of the family of the bride to be, will be sung by Radiana Pazmor, who will be accompanied by Sigmund Beel, violinist, and Harold P. Nachtrieb, cellist, and Mrs. William Carruth, organist.
Miss Garthwaite is a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and a University of California graduate. She is a niece of Mrs. Louis Cockroft, Mrs. John Beckwith and Mrs. W. W. Garthwaite of this city.
Mr. Marston is a graduate of the University of California and a Theta Chi fraternity man. He is a member of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society and an Eta Kappa Nu. He is also affiliated with the Loring club in San Francisco.”
