Arthur Vik's Declaration of Intention filed in Minnehaha County on Dec. 21, 1917 to become an American citizen reads as follows: "I, Arthur Korn Vik, aged 26 years, occupation farmer, do declare on oath that my personal description is: Color white, complexion light, height 5 feet 8 inches, weight 145 pounds, color of hair sandy, color of eyes blue, other visible distinctive marks blind on left eye. I was born in Sortland, Norway on the 14 day of May, annon Domini 1891; I now reside aat Dell Rapids, South Dakota. I emigrated to the United States of America from St. Mary, Canada on the Canadian Pacific railroad; my last foreign residence was Sortland, Norway; I am not married. It is my bona fide intention to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, and particularly to Haakon VII, King of Norway, of whom I am now a subject; I arrived at the port of Sault Ste. Marie, in the State of Michigan, on or about the 22 day of March, anno Domini 1905; I am not an anarchist; I am not a polygamist nor a believer in the practice of polygamy; and it is my intention in good faith to become a citizen of the United States of America and to permanently reside therein; So Help Me God.
