Marriage News Article: Argus Leader (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) 24 May 1901, Fri.
      "Largely Attended
Friends and Neighbors Attend Phillips-Volsch Wedding Tuesday
The Hartford Herald has the following account of the marriage of H. H. Phillips of this city to Miss Minnie Volsch, which took place at the home of the bride's parents this week. The bride is from one of the most prominent German families of the western part of the county. The wedding was largely attended by people from all parts of the county, several going out from Sioux Falls. The Herald article is as follows:
'There has evidently been a previous understanding with the weather clerk when H. H. Phillips and Minnie Volsch appointed the day which should witness the consecration of their united hearts and fortunes, which occurred at the home of the bride in Wall Lake Tuesday. The air was tempered to the well tamed blood of manhood, and perfumed with thyme and mint, and the redundant fragrance of the flowers of May, while the solar rays were modulated by the fleecy vapor of sleepy fountains and overflowing meadows. The model farm house where the bride of twenty has forsaken the girl and developed into womanhood is upon the summit of one of the well rounded elevations frequent, but not altogether peculiar to a prairie country, surrounded by groves and fields, at once suggestive of comfort and abundant provision.
'Only a few miles distance, near the lake, the bridegroom, who is 27, has for fourteen years watched the return of May with increasing interest in the prairie maiden whom he has wed.
The ceremony was performed at 11 o'clock in the morning by Rev. Geo. Doege, pastor of the Muchow church, in the presence of over 300 invited guests, there being 52 entire families present.
A temporary building 20x50 feet had been erected for a dining and dance hall, and a band of music from Spencer was in attendance At the conclusion of the ceremony, there was alternate feasting and dancing until the early hours of the following morning. There were many visitors from Sioux Falls present, who seemed to participate more cordially than the rest in the invigorating air and the general joy. G. W. Fox, the photographer, was present, and will be able to place numerous views in his studio therefrom. The united pair gracefully received the hearty congratulations of their numerous guests, and were gratified to witness the universal joy and harmony of the occasion."
