    • “HUMPHREY de Bohun, son of HUMPHREY de Bohun & his first wife Eleanor de Briouse of Abergavenny ([1249]-Pleshey 31 Dec 1298, bur Walden, Essex). A manuscript which narrates the descents of the founders of Lanthony Abbey names “Humfredus septimus de Bohun” as son of “dominus Humfredus sextus de Bohun, dominus de Brekenok” and his wife “Alianoram de Brewes”. He succeeded his grandfather in 1275 as Earl of Hereford and Essex, hereditary Constable of England. He was confined to Brecknock in 1282 and the office of Constable performed by his uncle John de Bohun. The History of the foundation of Walden abbey records the death “1298 II Kal Jan” of “Humfridus de Boun comes Herefordiæ et Essexiæ”[332]. The Annals of Worcester record the death “II Kal Jan” in 1298 of “Umfredus comes Herefordiæ” and his burial “in monasterio de Waledene”.
      m (1275) MAUD de Fiennes, daughter of ENGUERRAND Seigneur de Fiennes & his wife --- de Condé (-6 Nov before 1298, bur Walden, Essex). The History of the foundation of Walden abbey names “Matilda de Fenis” as wife of “Humfridus de Boun comes HerHerefordiæ et Essexiæ”. A manuscript which narrates the descents of the founders of Lanthony Abbey records that “Humfredus septimus de Bohun” married “Matildem de Fenes”, adding that she died “in festo S. Leonardi” and was buried “apud Waldene”. The primary source which confirms her parentage has not yet been identified.

      ”Humphrey de Bohun, 7th Earl of Hereford, 8th Earl of Essex, Baron of Pleshey, Essex, Baron of Kington, Herefordshire, hereditary Constable of England, son and heir, born about Sept. 1248 (aged 18 1/2 years on 26 March 1267.) During his grandfafather’s life, he was his deputy in the constableship of England. In 1270 he was granted seisin of his mother’s land but it was not until 1276 that he recovered Brecon from the Welsh. He married in 1275 Maud de Fiennes (or Fienles), daughter oof Enguerrand (or Ingram) de Fiennes, seigneur of Fiennes (Pas de Calais), by his 1st wife, _______, daughter of Jacques, seigneur de Condé, Bailleul, and Moriammez in Hainault. She was a near kinswoman to Queen Eleanor of Castile, wife of King Edward I. They had one son, Humphrey, Knt. [Earl of Hereford and Essex]. In 1278 he had protection on going to Santiago in Spain. In 1285 he was orderd by the Bishop of Worcester to desist from troubling the prior of Horsley. In 1285 he was ordered by the Bishop of Worcester to desist from troubling the prior of Horsley. In 1285 he was going beyond the seas and in 1287 was staying in Wales by the King’s command. In 1289 he waged a private war against Gilbert de Clare, Earl of Gloucester, and was ordered to keep the peace. In 1292 he was fined and imprisoned. In 1297 he conducted the Princess Elizabeth and her husband, John, Count of Holland, on their journey from England. The same year he and Roger Bigod, Earl of NNorfolk, refused to serve in Gascony on the plea that they were not bound to foreign service except in company with the king. On the king’s return to England in 1298, he was required by the two earls to promise a reconfirmation of the charters. Humphrey de Bohun, 7th Earl of Hereford, 8th Earl of Essex, died at Pleshey, Essex 31 Dec 1298, and was buried at Walden Abbey, Essex, with his wife who had predeceased him.”««s79»», ««s87»» [1, 2]
