Arvid L. Jordan, lifetime resident of Hartford, SD, passed away on September 15, 2007 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Sioux Falls after a short illness.
Arvid will be remembered by many for his selfless service to the community as either a farmer on the Jordan Homestead, a bus driver for the West Central and Tea School Districts (30 years), as a bus driver for Jackrabbit Lines and his service to the Urban-Hansen American Legion Post as its Chaplain for 35 years.
Beyond his work, he is best remembered for his love of music as a soloist, choir director, lead singer in the "Three Lads and Dad" Quartet, which recorded a record album in 1982, and as a coronet player citing "Taps" at many veteran services, as well as his contributions to many young and inspiring local musicians as they made their way into music as either their hobby or profession.
His passing leaves a void that cannot be replaced, but a legacy that will live on forever.
He leaves behind his wife, Doris, married 56 years; twin sons, Bruce (Sandy), Neil (Dephine) and son, Lee (Jeri); daughter, Lori (Dan) Gray; grandchildren, Cari Klinghagen, Jamie (Don) Lear, Nicholas (Katja) Jordan, Jill (Brad) Tille, Brian (Rebecca) Jordan and Ryan (Angela) Jordan; great-grandchildren, Jordan Lear, Tyson Klinghagen, Emma Lear and Braden Tille; two sisters, Ardeth (Norm) Rang and Clarice Voigt; and a host of friends and other relatives.
A memorial visitation will begin at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 21st at Miller West Funeral Chapel with the Jordan Family present to greet friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday at Hartford United Methodist Church. A private family inurnment will be held at Lone Rock Cemetery, rural Flandreau, at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to Hartford United Methodist Church Building Fund or VA Hospice."
