      Obituary, Santa Barbara News Press, August 25, 1976:
      “Edmonds rites
      “Memorial services for George W. Edmonds, 64, of 1020 Las Alturas Rd., a former News-Press night editor who died Monday at his home following a long illness with cancer, will be Friday at All Saints Church with Dr. George J. Hall officiating. Private committal will follow.
      “Mr. Edmonds was born in Chula Vista on June 30, 1912, the son of Warner and Martha Ward Edmondson. His father was a prominent Santa Barbara banker. He moved to Santa Barbara with his family in 1929.
      “He was a graduate of Santa Barbara High School and a journalism graduate of Stanford University, where he was a member of the track and golf teams.
      “He was a long-time member of the local Red Cross board and chairman in 1950. He was a member of the board of Cottage Hospital until the time of his death.
      “Mr. Edmonds was a reporter and later night news editor for the News-Press. He was a state inheritance tax appraiser for 19 years.
      “During World War II he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. Later he was associated with Max Watkins Associates in estate planning.
      “In 1970 Mr. Edmonds and his wife bought the Paul F. Scott stationery shop in Montecito Village, where he was active until his death.
      “He was a member of the Valley Club and twice club golf champion; a member of the Santa Barbara Club; the rotary Club; and the Reserve Officers Assn.
      “Survivors include his wife, the former Adeline McCormick; a daughter, Mrs. James T. Lynch of Santa Barbara,; two sons Captain Richard W. Edmonds, U.S. Air Force, stationed in Honolulu, and David W. Edmonds of Santa Barbara; a brother, Warner Edmonds of Santa Barbara; and five grandchildren.
      “Friends may remember the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara, 300 W. Pueblo St; the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital; or the Santa Barbara Chapter of the American National Red Cross, 2707 State St.
      “Welch-Ryce Associates are in charge of arrangements.”
