Sioux Falls - Hans Wesley Hofstad, 88, died Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, SD.
The visitation will be 12:00 PM Sunday, August 2, 2009 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls with the family present from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A committal service will be 11:30 AM Monday, August 3, 2009 at Hills of Rest Memorial Park. A memorial service will be 1:00 PM Monday, August 3, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church.
Hans Wesley “Wes” Hofstad, the son of Peder and Christine (Morck) Hofstad was born January 7, 1921 in Tracy, MN. The family moved to Sioux Falls in 1934, and Wes graduated from Washington High School in 1940. He then served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
On September 9, 1944, Wesley was united in marriage with Lillian M. Nelson in Sioux Falls. He owned and operated Hofstad’s Service, a Mobile gas station for 21 years.
Wesley was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and the D.A.V. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, playing cards, and playing the “bones” to any music.
Grateful for having shared his life are a son, Lee (Lona) of Jacksonville, FL; three daughters, Barbara Hofstad of Sioux Falls, Sandy (Ken) Dunlap of Sioux Falls, Judy (Tim) Melham of Buffalo, MN; nine grandchildren, Jackie (Will) Green of Hoover, AL, Dusty Olson of Sioux Falls, David (Carla) Dunlap of Sioux Falls, Kris (Chad) Zortman of Sioux Falls, Lisa Hofstad of Raleigh, NC, Lee Hofstad of Jacksonville, FL, Shannon Melham of Coon Rapids, MN, Travis Melham of Tempe, AZ, Tracy (Jasonn) Peltier of White Bear Lake, MN; ten great-grandchildren, Jordan and Austin Green, Amanda, Katie, and Macey Dunlap, Leslie, Lane, and Kaelyn Hofstad, Aiden Zortman, Liliana Peltier; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lillian; four brothers; and two sisters.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the entire staff at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.
The family has requested that memorials be directed to the D.A.V.”
