      p. 498 (Translated into English):
In the years around 1850 two couples from Voss bought a fourth of the land in Vik. Only on the south part did people from Sortland live during the next years. Anders Kolbeinsen and Gjøri Sjursdtr came from Sørfjorden (under Liland) in 1841 and got the deed on #59 four years later.
Anders and Gjøri took a trip to Vik in 1821 then they came north with a cargo boat that Anton Riber piloted. Their youngest child was born on the farm and the couple noticed how fertile the farm already was then.
The influx of people from Vos had great consequences both on the farming and also the building of the houses in Vik. Probably the couple built new houses a little north of the old Vik in order to be closer to the soil that they owned. That is how the characteristic “landsbyen” arose the full length of Vik. The name Klingholten was kept for the real estate that was tied to the soil and not to the farm fields.
Anders and Gjøri expanded the operation of the farm a great deal. Ten years after they had bought Klingholten, they had two horses, 10 cows, and around 30 goats and sheep in their animal barn. When the couple was around 70 years old they sold the farm to the next generation. At the same time, it was divided. The daughter Brita and her husband received #59A and their son received #59B.
They lived only a few years as pensioners on their own farm. Anders died in 1856 while Gjøri lived an additional 16 years. She experienced still more growth on the farm. The daughter who was born in Vik, Ingeborg Andersdtr, married in 1861 to a newly-arrived individual from Voss, Øiel Olsen. They lived for about a year in Vik then they got a part of the farm on a church place in Bjørnskinn in Andøy and moved there. That was the beginning of a number of relatives between Vik and Bjørnskinn.
The oldest daughter of Anders and Gjøri, Brita Andersdtr, continued to live in Sørfjorden after she had married Johan Hammond Gabrielsen from Kvalsaukan. In 1849 they got the deed of half of Klingholten, that part that had become #59A, and the year after, they had moved to Vik.
During the 1850s, the herd owned by Brita and Johan increased considerably. In 1865 the cow barn housed 8 cows and 20 goats and sheep, one of the largest herds in Sortland. By then Johan had been a widower for some time. Brita died in 1859, 46 years of age. The couple’s kids began marrying after 1870. But already in 1869, Johan divided the farm part amongst Anders, Georg, and Colbein. The three parts didn’t become the same size. #1 was the biggest and #3 the smallest, buth the differences were small. The division of the property was to begin when the maternal grandmother died which happened in 1872.««s52»» [1]
